On Monday, March 17, for the first time in many seasons, I couldn’t watch the Dancing With The Stars premiere. Even though I started watching the show for other reasons (as mentioned in my earlier post), I stayed watching it because of Tristan MacManus. The B-level “stars”, cheesy costumes, fake tans, fake drama, and odd, obscure dances (contemporary, caveman hustle, big top jazz, Charleston) were all entertaining enough, but Tristan gave the show heart for me.
When I saw the rumors that he would be left out this season, my son (who is a big Tristan fan) and I discussed that they couldn’t possibly be true because it didn’t make any sense. When we read Tristan’s message to fans after the announcement, my son’s response was “reading this actually makes me feel worse”.
If the decision had been Tristan’s, to take more time with his new wife, open a dance studio, move to Australia, I wouldn’t have been happy, but I would have understood. The fact that he seemed blindsided by the decision was just too heartbreaking.
So, ABC, you lost two fans in our household and many more across the country. I hope you come to your senses in future seasons, if there are future seasons and if Tristan would even consider returning.
