Over the last couple of weeks, we have done a series of Fans’ Favorites surveys and questions – all of which have yielded some very interesting results. We’ve analyzed all of it and come to our own off-the-wall conclusions, but in our “favorite season” survey, the largest percentage of votes went to Season 13 as your favorite. So we each came up with our favorite things about Season 13 and decided that it likely is our favorite not because of who won or didn't win or who scored the most 10s or who got kicked in the teeth by the judges, but because of the team we now call Magic, Magic, and More Magic.
New blood is good blood, and Tristan was a new pro and just what the doctor ordered. The addition of Peta and Val didn’t quite have the same impact for us (probably because we still had visions of Tristan’s amazing troupe performances stuck in our heads). At any rate, ABC's plan worked like a charm, and Tristan became a household name (okay, maybe not household but you get the point) within a day of the premiere of Season 13. There were plenty of fun couples that season but none was as perfectly matched as Tristan and Nancy. Good Lord, they made us laugh. Tristan and Nancy were good to the fans. We mean really good to the fans. They spoiled us horribly, and we loved it. Week after week we got video footage of them thanking the fans, talking to the fans, and convincing the fans to keep tuning in. The Bickering Bickersons had a starring role in the season. That was better drama than Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, or Game of Thrones and better comedy than Parks and Recreation, Modern Family, or that classic Married With Children. They should have won Emmy Awards for acting, directing, production, makeup, costuming, and for just being downright ridiculously fun. Movie stars – Duh. These two were rock stars, movie stars, and the kind of stars that are celestial. Their appearances could have been made into a great movie that would have had Oscar winning material for costumes, direction, hairstyling, and dramatic content. Team Tristan and Nancy or Team MacGrace was perfect. She might not have been the best dancer, but lordy, they were entertaining. He was patient and creative; they bickered all the dang time, but they were adorable and she wasn’t a ringer. That’s what the show SHOULD be about. They were the most fan friendly group of the bunch. Thanks to Nancy, we had tons of videos. He was on her show. We got rehearsal clips. We got thank you videos. We got the Nancy Grace Christmas Special. We got Nancy dancing with Val, Maks, and Lisa Rinna. We got footage with Lacey, and we got more with Chaz. We just had an all around blast. Halloween Week was a hoot, and we don’t care what anybody else says, the straight jacket tango still should have won. "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" had probably the fastest tempo of any song ever used on DWTS and it might not have been the best technically but it was hilariously wicked and dark. We still remember seeing an ABC teaser with that ridiculous hat and we (SWAT and Shakes) joked to each other - “That’s probably for Tristan.” Little did we know… Then there was the sexy madam and the hunky customer in the Group Broadway Dance. Talk about commanding the stage. Nancy’s handstand stole the show, but have mercy, Tristan’s owned that performance. The hips, the passion, the fire, the delight….everything. And there you have it. We could drone on and on and on but you get the picture. Season 13 was special on many levels, and we can only hope that we get that much fun in Season 17.
